THE SCHOOL
Ss Peter & Paul’s Catholic Primary School is a small, welcoming parish school nestled in the quiet streets of Doncaster East, around 20km east of Melbourne’s CBD. Sharing a site with Ss Peter & Paul’s Parish Church and Community Centre, the school has been part of the local community since 1959.
With small class sizes, teachers know every child and their family. This allows them to personalise learning, build strong relationships and make sure every student feels safe, acknowledged and valued. The school has a strong focus on student wellbeing and models a culture of acceptance, care and inclusion.
Over many decades, Ss Peter & Paul’s has grown and evolved, with modern learning spaces, specialist facilities and play areas that support rich learning and active play. An active parent community continues to make a wonderful contribution to the life and learning of all students.
THE CRISIS
On July 28, 2026 parents of students received a notice from the Principal advising that MACS intends to close the school at the end of the school year. The reason of low enrolments not being sustainable was the primary reason given. Whilst there is no debating the school enrolment numbers, parents have not been given sufficient options nor reasons beyond that. We are asking that parents who dearly love our school, sign the petition below, urging MACS to consider a 12 month moratorium and give the school the chance to consider its options with wider community consultation.
This decision is not just about a building; it is about the future of our children and the community we have built together. We are calling on all parents and guardians to join our campaign and demand a fair resolution to this crisis.
